HISTORY OF CESSI - KAZAKHSTAN

1997                                           From May to September 1997 the company was hiring and training staff, buying equipment for the office in Akmola (Astana). In September 1997 a representative of Audit & Service Europe Company (London, UK) arrived to Kazakhstan with a purpose to find a partner to perform a project for Coca ColaCompany. After meetings with several companies the representative chose CESSI-Kazakhstan. During this large project–consisted of many waves and complicated system of sampling, recruiting, organizing the schedule of taking interviews equally around entire country–CESSI-Kazakhstan established its network of interviewers. In November 1997 CESSI held its first seminar for staff and regional managers.

1998                                              In January 1998 CESSI-Kazakhstan held its official presentation in Astana. The company began to conduct public opinion polls in Akmola (Astana in present). The country’s leading TV channel “Khabar” and other mass media made reports and published the data of surveys, devoted the capital life.                              In summer 1998 CESSI-Kazakhstan began partnership with the Government of Kazakhstan.  The Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan became one of the first and main partners. Our company participated in organizing and holding seminars, round tables and trainings. This year the company has started quarterly research of social political situation and language learning situation. 

1999                                        In April 1999 CESSI-Kazakhstan won the tender for conducting survey “Marketing Situation in Kazakhstan” ordered by World Bank of Reconstruction and Development. In the same year, Kazakhstan Parliament and Maslihat elections were held. CESSI-Kazakhstan actively participated in this event, studying and diagnosing the population’s voting attitude. During Maslihat elections CESSI-Kazakhstan for the first time used exit pool. Since 1999 the Center has begun a partnership with national magazine “Business World”. CESSI-Kazakhstan staff became members of the magazine’s first editorial group and constant authors. Results of CESSI-Kazakhstan research have been published in “Public Opinion” and “Marketing Investigations” columns. In cooperation with the magazine CESSI performs several projects, among them are an annually survey “Men of the Year” and a competition “The Businessmen”.

2000-2003                              Since 2000 CESSI-Kazakhstan has conducted the surveys for such transnational companies as Kodak, Gillette hasbegun cooperation with The World Bank of Reconstruction and Development and Asian Bank of Development.

CESSI-Kazakhstan actively cooperates with the national newspaper “Kazakhstanskaya pravda”. Since July 2002 in partnership with the newspaper’s Political Department the Institute has been performing the project – experts’ survey on current social and politic concerns in monitoring regime. The data of the survey have been published in the newspaper weekly.
This period marked with the commencement of cooperation with Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies and with UN Development Project. The Institute CESSI-Kazakhstan conducted conjoint projects with The Institute for Environment Studying (Amsterdam, Holland), ERM (Environmental Resources Management Ltd., London, UK), French Engineering Company, Paris, France.

2004                                              In 2004 CESSI-Kazakhstan conducted social research for parliamentary elections held in Kazakhstan. CESSI-Kazakhstan studied population’s voting attitude, vote motivation and assessed candidates’ rating. The clients of this research were government agencies. Staff of CESSI-Kazakhstan in cooperation with the magazine “Business World” participated in preparing “Astana through the eyes of contemporaries” book for Mayor of Astana. The presentation of the book was held in November 2004.

2005-2006                                   In 2005 CESSI-Kazakhstan actively participated in presidential elections, studying public opinion prior the Election Day. In cooperation with the Academy of Public Administration the first book on elections’ results “Election 2005: Facts, Comments and Results” was published.

CESSI-Kazakhstan began a project “Eurasian Monitor”.
Within this period CESSI-Kazakhstan made researches in ethnosociology and ethnolinguistic processes. By order of Kazakhstan Ministry of Culture and Information the Center worked on methodology and conducted monitoring of the interethnic and interdenominational situation in Kazakhstan.

2007                                               CESSI-Kazakhstan established representation of the company in Almaty. 

CESSI-Kazakhstan provides special parliamentary elections with weekly telephone interviews, survey of social and political situation in Kazakhstan, exit pool.
